Who is david gilmour

Both albums performed very well, proving that the Pink Floyd name was stronger than any individual member. The reunion was the most talked about event of the day, and sales of Pink Floyd's back catalogue shot through the roof.

Rumours of a full scale tour began to surface shortly after the show, with both Gilmour and Waters being offered millions of dollars, but it wasn't meant to be. Neither Waters nor Gilmour showed much enthusiasm to work together again, with Gilmour being quoted as saying that he would rather spend his time pursuing his solo career. Much to everyone's surprise, Gilmour and Waters reunited once again on July 11, for a charity performance for "The Hoping Foundation," an organization that supports Palestinian refugee kids.

No official Pink Floyd reunion has yet been set, but Gilmour did promise that he would join Roger Waters for one show on his "The Wall" tour, performing "Comfortably Numb. The door now seems slightly ajar that David Gilmour and Roger Waters may possibly work with each other again, either as a duo, or as Pink Floyd once again. On Roger Waters facebook page, he wrote: "We played together , and it was fucking great!

End of story. In March he was a member of the Paul McCartney group. It's crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it's got to be worthwhile.

After Dark Side we were really floundering around. I wanted to make the next album more musical, because I felt some of these tracks had been just vehicles for the words. We were working in in this horrible little rehearsal room in Kings Cross without windows, putting together what became the next two albums, 'Wish You Were Here', and 'Animals'.

For me, 'Wish You Were Here' was very satisfying. I think we achieved a better balance of music and lyrics. And sometimes the tunes were neglected.

I suppose I agree that we have had an influence on modern popular music. No-one can replace Richard Wright - he was my musical partner and my friend. In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd , Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.

Everything in moderation, that's what I live by. I'm just not a tortured, frustrated person who has to pour all these things out of his soul. None of that is a prerequisite to being good at rock 'n' roll. I've never had any religion. I'd prefer it if I did really. These shows were filmed in 4k by director Gavin Elder with art direction from Gilmour 's wife, award-winning novelist Polly Samson. They were released in the fall of in various audio and video packages.

This phase went on for years and years and years. My father was an unsolved mystery. I would periodically get, quite quietly, upset about it and then ask my mum to tell me about him and try to get to the bottom of why he had left.

When I was 11, a mutual friend of my parents and Heathcote — a magician called Simon Drake — set up a meeting. I was very curious because all I had of him were these autographed books.

The whale one, the car one, the elephant one So we met, weirdly, in Yo! Sushi at Paddington station. He was wearing a jumper with holes in and an old tweed jacket and some cravaty thing — and I noticed we have the same eyes and chin. I was quite charmed by him. He was working on some campaign against GM crops and I was this year-old playing on the floor with a noisy toy and it just felt like I was annoying him.

I can still completely remember that feeling I had. We had been exchanging emails … it was when the Harry Potter films were being made and I was quite into them. The second film had come out — because he was an actor I said that he would be excellent as the character Sirius Black played in the films by Gary Oldman — a man with wild black hair and wolfish. And then, nothing, I was completely cut off. I think what had happened is that his mother had died. I was fairly upset, I have to say.

David, though, was and is, in many ways, the perfect father and we are now very, very close. He is a kind person, very generous with his time and his energy.

We would climb trees together or make fires in the countryside. He had as much time as you want and was willing to put a lot of effort into going along with whatever projects interested me. When I was 11, I wanted to build a little wooden chest.
