Said to be able to destroy reality itself, this technique wiped out Yokuda, leaving nothing of the continent. The Redguards are proud, strong warriors. They have schools that train those who wish to become warriors. Every man, woman, and child is taught the ways of war and combat. Though every Redguard is trained in combat, only the strongest, fastest, and smartest are accepted into paid militias since Hammerfell has no standing military.
Others will be sent into knightly orders in service of the royal families or become sellswords. Compared to the other groups in Tamriel, the Redguards are considered a new race. By the time they invaded Hammerfell, all other races had established themselves. Though they're new, the Redguards quickly announced themselves as brutal warriors and gained a reputation as barbarians and cutthroats.
For a long time, the Redguards kept to themselves and did not want to associate with the other races outside Hammerfell. It was only after they found a common enemy in the Orcs did they open trade with the Bretons.
After this, the Redguards decided to trade with the other provinces and learned the Common Tongue language to better communicate. In order to bring some peace to his people, he agreed to let the Aldmeri Dominion have the southern portion of Hammerfell. As the Redguards refused to let the Dominion rule their land, they continued fighting. Both sides fought to a standstill and the Dominion completely withdrew from Hammerfell.
Though successful in driving the Dominion out, the Redguards remain bitter towards the Empire for abandoning them. When the Yokudans came to Hammerfell, they did not come in peace. After losing their home continent, the warrior-wave also known as the Ra Gada sailed east of Yokuda and began conquering the province.
The Redguards proved that they were strong warriors and conquered all of Hammerfell after a few major battles with the Bretons and Orcs. Later on, they fought off two Goblin invasions. Anyone who dares to invade Hammerfell will have a tough fight on their hands as the Redguards are known for their stamina and have some poison resistance similar to the Wood Elves.
Hammerfell, the Redguard's homeland, had recently survived a massive invasion by the Aldmeri Dominion. Though they were aided by the Imperial Legion , the following peace treaty gave a large chunk of the region to the elves. The Redguards refused to accept those terms, and succeeded in reclaiming their homeland from the Dominion, which lead to the separation of Hammerfell from the Mede Empire as an independent nation.
There is now distrust between the Redguards and the Imperials. It is interesting to note that the Redguards pushed back the Elven armies twice before, and would have dominated Tamriel if not for the opposition in Cyrodiil during the Empire's formation.
This makes Hammerfell the only country to have actually defeated the Aldmeri Dominion, and this largely without the aid of the Empire. The history of Hammerfell was filled with war until finally, because of forced cooperation between Forebears and Crowns , the civil war in Hammerfell has ended, which is likely to lead to a prosperous future. The main religion of Hammerfell is a mix between ancestor worship and faith in the traditional Yokudan pantheon. According to Trayvond the Redguard , in Hammerfell, they "don't much like spell casters, because Wizards steal souls and tamper with minds.
If you use magic, you're weak or wicked. However, he does mention that he and other Redguards are rather fond of Destruction spells, as that school of magic suits their culture well. As in previous Elder Scrolls games, the Redguards excel in combat. In Skyrim , unlike previous games, they are more magically inclined than Nords or Orcs.
When Yokuda, the Redguard's former continent, sank into the ocean around 1E , the surviving Yokudans Redguards sailed east to settle in Hammerfell. Some warrior Yokudans known as the Ra Gada began moving across the mainland in 1E , conquering tribes and driving off the Orsimer, eventually earning the name Redguard. Mostly remaining a closed culture, they only began trade with High Rock when they shared with the Bretons a common enemy with the Orcs of Orsinium, eventually replacing their Yokudan language to ease trade.
A civil war broke out in Hammerfell after tensions rose between the Crowns, favoring traditional Yokudan culture and the Forebears, descendants of the Ra Gada wishing to remain close to the rest of Tamriel for trade and political purposes.
During the Third Era, the War of Bend'r-Mahk, some of the Crowns' cities were overrun by Nords around 3E , with the Forebears not aiding the resistance due to their unanswered call for help to the Crowns when the Camoran Usurper marched northward in an attempt to seize land after freeing Valenwood from the Steptim Empire. Redguards of the East held a grudge against the Nords after the war and tried to regain land to no avail.
However, after the Thalmor won, the Empire signed rights for them to occupy parts of Tamriel in the White-Gold Concordat in 4E , which angered the Redguards who refused this and continued fighting the Thalmor. Redguards remained bitter towards the Empire for betraying them and claimed the Concordat was a mistake on the Empire's behalf.
Any poison dealt from enemies such as Chaurus, Forsworn and Spiders will have less of an effect and reduced side effects from Alchemy testing or the Damage Stamina Regen from drinking alcoholic beverages.
This isn't as widely useful as some other races but is still a benefit if exploring areas such as Blackreach or The Reach. When activated, Adrenaline Rush will grant the player 10x stamina recovery for 60 seconds and can only be activated once a day. The best time to use this power is during stamina-draining activities such as dealing heavier strikes against strong or multiple enemies in a close range, attempting to flee or when needing to hold the draw on a bow for a longer time than expected.
Redguards start with the same basic spells as all other races, Flames and Healing.
